O'Bannon Woods SP Hosts Halloween Camping Weekend

The state park, in partnership with the Central Clover 4-H Club, will offer an event-packed weekend with activities for everyone. These include a chili cook off, hayrides, a campsite decorating contest, voluntary trick-or-treating, festive craft programs in the spirit of the season, live snakes, a venture-into-the-night hike, and more. 

The fun starts Friday, Oct. 30, with Smokey Bear distributing candy in the campgrounds from 4 to 6 p.m., and a venture into the night at the Hickory Hollow Interpretive Center at 8 p.m. Friday's also the time for campers to start decorating their campsite in spirit of the Halloween season. Votes for favorite site will be taken at the Class A gatehouse. Campsite judging closes at 8 p.m. Saturday night.

Saturday's lineup includes crafts such as pet rocks, nature journals, soap carving, wood cookie necklaces, and designing your own bugs, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; bee program, 11 a.m.; Indiana Tree Day Hike, noon; hay rides, noon to  4 p.m.; Snakes Alive program, 1 p.m.; pumpkin carving, 2 p.m.; ghost stories and seasonal tales,  2 p.m.; bug program, 3 p.m.; chili cook off, 4 p.m.; voluntary trick-or-treating in the campgrounds, 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and campfire tales and legends, 8 p.m.

The event concludes with the campsite decorating results at 10 a.m. at the front of the Class A campgrounds.

All events and programs are free, except for the regular weekend gate admission of $5 daily for in-state vehicles and $7 daily for out-of-state vehicles.
