Indiana officials said the tree-killing emerald ash borer has been confirmed in northern Indiana’s Cass County.
The state Department of Natural Resources said the invasive green beetle has now been found in 32 of Indiana’s 92 counties. The latest discovery was near Logansport.
Since 2002, large infestations of the ash borer have killed millions of ash trees in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and other Midwestern states.
The DNR has imposed quarantines that bar the transportation of wood from ash trees from the state’s infested areas. A federal quarantine barring the transport of wood from ash trees across state lines is also in place.
